The Effects of Warm Compression Massager on Eyelid Temperature and Tear Break-Up Time

Abstract
|
|
|
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to find out the difference between the eyelid temperature measurement when using eye massager. In addition, the study explored the short-term effect of time on tear film stability.
Methods : 30 participants were recruited and participants were divided into dry eye group and a normal eye group based on OSDI (Ocular Surface Disease Index) survey score (15 dry eye group, 15 normal eye group). For warm massager, OA-MA011 (OA, Seoul, Korea), OA-MA 030 (OA, Seoul, Korea), DP-EM50 (Caremedi, Hanam, Korea) were used, and the A400 camera was used to 1, 3, 5, 10, and 15 minutes after wearing, and the average value was recorded after measurement at 5, 10, and 15 minutes after removal. And Keratography 5 m (OCULUS, Wetzlar, Germany) was used to measure the tear film break up time (TBUT) before and 15 minutes after wearing the massager and compare and analyze them.
Results : It was confirmed when wearing it Warm eye massager for 15min the eyelid temperature was measured at 39.77±0.69℃ in the dry eye group and 39.57±0.77℃ in the normal eye group the eyelid temperature in dry and normal eye groups were statistically significant when worn for 5 min or more (p=0.033). That the tear break-up time was improved compared to before wearing but fell short of the normal range and it was statistically effective in dry eye (p=0.041), but not statistically effective in the normal eye group(p=0.084).
Conclusion : In this study, wearing an eye massager for more than 5min can affect the eyelid temperature, TMH (Tear Meniscus Height) was high, and TBUT (Tear Break Up Time) improved stability compared to before wearing, but differences in the results of each device were confirmed. Therefore, when using a massager with a heating function, it is considered that a sufficient wearing time should be performed in a sufficient condition.
